Vitamin D3 contributes:

  • absorption and utilization of calcium and phosphorus,
  • the maintenance of blood calcium levels,
  • maintaining teeth, bones and muscle function
  • the normal functions of the immune system; and
  • the process of cell division.

Vitamin D3 in the Immuvit Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) food supplement is 100% plant-based and is contained in the Vitashine ingredient. Vitashine is a special oily lichen extract. It is naturally rich in vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) and fatty acids.

Vitamin D deficiency and insufficiency

1. The latitude. Countries further from the equator have less sun exposure, especially during the winter months from November to February, as much less UVB radiation reaches the earth's surface in these areas, which is necessary to activate vitamin D production in the skin.

2. Reduced skin exposure to the sun (people working indoors).

3. The use of sunscreen (the basic requirement for vitamin D synthesis from the sun is bare skin without sunscreen).

4. Dark skin (the melanin that gives dark pigmentation to our skin is our natural sunscreen).

5. Increasing age (our body synthesizes vitamin D when the skin is exposed to sunlight however the skin loses its "effectiveness" after the age of 50.

6. Dietary sources of vitamin D3 are foods that are not commonly found in our diet since the main source of fat in Mediterranean countries is olive oil.

Prevention

Adequate exposure to the sun: The body synthesizes vitamin D when the skin is exposed to the sun. About 15 minutes a day is enough to meet the recommended daily "dose" of the vitamin.

Consumption of foods with vitamin D: Vitamin D is present in some foods, albeit in small amounts. These are mainly oily fish (tuna, salmon, mackerel, etc.), liver, cheese, egg yolk and fortified foods (usually milk and cereals).

Dietary supplement: If a vitamin D deficiency is found, vitamin D supplements help prevent the deficiency from developing into a deficiency.

Dosage

Adults and adolescents 12 years and older: 1 capsule per day, to be taken with water.
